The city of Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia and has a population of more than 200,000. The greater Richmond metropolitan area — which includes the suburban counties of Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover — has more than 1.2 million residents. It’s the third most populous metro area in the state, after Northern Virginia and Norfolk-Virginia Beach.
Richmond is known for its history (dating from the founding of the American colonies) and its arts and culture.
